Cliff Davis, Director of Service

Where did you work before Capital Business Systems?
I worked as the computer support manager for Long Beach Unified School District in Long Beach, California. It was a big school district of more than 120,000 staff and students.

What is your proudest moment at Capital?
Hiring a new member of our team, knowing that we’re bringing in a person who will do well in our company and will also make us all better.

What’s the best thing about being in our industry?
The people really care about taking care of customers, and it shows in everyone you meet either in our own company or folks we meet at trade shows and conferences. Over the years I’ve made some good friends of folks in our industry.

How do you define success?
Setting goals for yourself and your team and working together to achieve them. Even if you miss your goals, you’ve brought the team closer together trying to get there.

What do you like to do when you’re not at the office?
I build and fly R/C airplanes…it’s a very relaxing hobby that requires focusing on nothing else while you’re doing it. It’s a great way to shut down the noise of the world around you and just concentrate on something challenging and fun.

Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?
Australia…my wife and I were there for 3 weeks a few years ago. It was a combination of things I love about travel – a ride on an airplane I’d never flown on before (747-400, Qantas) and seeing a part of the world I’d never imagined I’d be able to see. We spent time in Sydney, Cairns seeing the great barrier reef and went inland to Alice Springs and saw Uluru.

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?
Neil Armstrong. Just to talk to him for a little while about R/C airplanes and the space program.

What advice would you give others in your profession?
Embrace technology and believe you can change and get better. Let go of the “we’ve always done it *this* way” ideas and try something new. Change isn’t scary.
