Myths and truths about remanufactured cartridges

Myth #1: They are unsafe for your equipment – Because OEMs often meet their profit margins only by selling their own cartridges, their product documentation might claim that generic or remanufactured cartridges will damage your machine.

The truth: Using a remanufactured cartridge will never void your printer or copier warranty.

Myth #2: They were once damaged – Perhaps because of the name, remanufactured cartridges are sometimes assumed to utilize inferior cartridges or previously damaged OEM cartridges.

The Truth: Remanufactured cartridges only utilize clean, inspected, fully-functioning OEM cartridges.

Myth #3: “Compatible” equals “remanufactured” – “Compatible” cartridges are not the same as “remanufactured” cartridges. Compatible cartridges, while not manufactured by the OEM, are built by an aftermarket manufacturer typically located outside of the U.S. While inexpensive, they can also be of questionable quality.

The Truth: Remanufactured cartridges often adhere to higher quality standards.

Myth #4: OEM cartridges are always new – You might imagine that ink and toner cartridges purchased from an OEM and labeled “original” or “genuine” are always brand-new.

The Truth: While the maker of the equipment you purchased will certainly manufacture these cartridges, they usually use a combination of new and recycled parts.
